The round stage was dimly lit; the New London Theatre wouldn’t be coming to life with the sound of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music for another three hours or so. A few stage hands were wondering around, getting a few of the lights and sweeping the stage ready for that evenings show.
Quinn walked on to the stage, the music director was sitting on a piano stall with a keyboard in front of him to the left of the stage, ”Quinn, hello.” David the music director said to the man as he came forward in tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt.
”Evening David. Is Pam here yet?” he looked around and saw a woman coming from the auditorium and climbing on to the stage, ”Talk of the devil!” David laughed.
Pam was the touring chorographer with the show; she was the one who went through dancers with certain members of the cast.
”Hello David, Quinn.” Pam said smiling and nodding to Quinn, ”Right, lets get down to business, you said that you don’t like the second movement in your song right?” she asked. Quinn nodded, ”Yeah, I suppose it would be alright, but you never know. Should we try the new movement?” he asked, stretching his legs and flexing them, getting them warmed up.
”Right, clue David.” Pam said as she stood back and the familiar notes of “Mr Mistoffelees” echoed through the air. Quinn began to dance, turning and spinning, keeping his concentration. The second movement seemed to not trouble him, he leapt into the air, landing on his toe and going into a double spin.
”Right, David stop.” Pam put her hand up as Quinn stopped spinning, ”That looked fine from where I was standing Quinn, I think you should be fine.”
”Alright, thanks, just wanted to make sure.” he said smiling and knelt down, doing up his ballet lace that had come undone.
”I’ll see you tonight Quinn.” David stood up and began carrying the piano stool and later the keyboard into the wings, ”Got to go and see a friend, having coffee down the road at Café Nero.” he laughed as he began to put his coat on.
”I’ll be back in an hour, will you tell all the members of the cast that we will be going through the first number at 5:30.” Pam smiled as she made her way towards the back of the auditorium and out.
Quinn sat on the stage, dangling his legs over the side and feeling at the flooring. Sighing he stared up at the lights.
